Instructions for application of strap hinges to engine house doors #3609

These strap hinges were attached to the walls in the prototype buildings with an L-bolt, which was either set into the mortar on a masonry building or bolted into the wood framing on a wood structure.

Here are some proto-type photos for reference:

        

Photo #2 shows the bolt as it looks without the door--set into the mortar of the masonry.  You can see the placement in the mortar a little better on Photo #3.

 

 

The drawing at the top here is from the Sears Roebuck Catalog dated 1897.

It shows the bolt in place on the hinge.  For modeling purposes, we suggest that you form a piece of wire (.020") into an "L" as shown in the photo, drill a hole into your masonry or wood frame and press the long leg into the hole.  After cementing, you can trim the extended piece of the wire flush with the inside of the wall.
